The only reason I can see why Oxford announced this via a Club Statement was to get other clubs interested. What do you think? I wouldn't dream to tell a fan base that a bid for a crowd favourite has been accepted from your fiercest rival if said player had no interest. Thoughts?

I think people were more excited at taking the piss out of the scummers, than they were at the prospect of him joining us.
As someone else said, why did Oxford hang him out to dry by announcing publicly that they had accepted the bid before the deal was done?
