Folks....have Rooney in my dream team and the Telegraph docked him points for missing the penalty v City but gave him the points for scoring Hmmm
On the official stats is it a missed penalty? as he scored from the rebound after the keeper saved, just a general question because as soon as the keeper saves it does that mean end of penalty?
Not important but just wondered.

I'd say it is over as soon as it touches someone else other than the keeper or goes out of play

I'd say as soon as the ball is kicked its no longer a 'penalty' as people are free to enter the box - unless it hits the post then everyone is free to touch the ball should it come back into play.

Naturally, I'd say a missed penalty is a penalty that doesnt go in - regardless of what happens next.

Law 14:

Quote
• After the players have taken positions in accordance with this Law,
the referee signals for the penalty kick to be taken
• The player taking the penalty kick must kick the ball forward
• He must not play the ball again until it has touched another player
• The ball is in play when it is kicked and moves forward
When a penalty kick is taken during the normal course of play, or time
has been extended at half-time or full time to allow a penalty kick be taken or retaken, a goal is awarded if, before passing between goalposts and under the crossbar:
• the ball touches either or both of the goalposts and/or the crossbar
and/or the goalkeeper

The referee decides when a penalty kick has been completed.

Except the taker if it hits the post i think....hasn't the goalie got to touch it for him to score the rebound?

thats why it says unless its hits the post in there!

Shame the ball didnt go back to Watson on Saturday, unless the ref judged Wes to have touched it. Dont think he did but would have done if the penalty was on target.

Are we sure the bloke who scored wasn't in the area when they took the pen?

No. But we won and are in the 4th round so it doesn't really matter.

That said, encroachment is rarely penalised these days, but seems to be the norm from games I watch.
