Can anyone tell me if that old cigar shop is still about these days,The one that was at the top of the town by the town hall,I've not been in town for ages and when i did i did't take much notice.
It's more than likely gone but i thought it was worth an ask.

Think it went in about 1971, about the time that health warnings started appearing on fag packets. The market fell right out of Balkan Sobranie, Russian Black, Camel and Passing Cloud. Capstan Full Strength also slumped in sales...
The ban on TV tobacco ads around that time did for pipe tobacco like St Bruno...

1971 bloody hell was it that long ago.
Thanks for the reply Reg..
I was hoping it may still be about these days and hoping a son or daughter may have taken it over,I got friends dad who is 93 and collects old lighters so i was hoping it was still there.

71 is a bit of a guess....but it has been long gone....possibly more likely about the same time as the Baptist Tabernacle.

Frederick Tranter`s is the place to go for cigars and all types of tobacco. There`s still one in Bath and I think one in Oxford.....if you like smoking then get yourself to one of these shops before they disappear for ever.

Yep, if you want to get served by someone who is totally uninterested in customers and you want to pay at least £15-20 more than you would anywhere else! Cigars.uk are really good, free delivery and a massive stock level, i used to get mine in Devizes but they shut in May this year.

My wife used to work for John Carter up in old town. Just used to deal with cigarettes, cigars, tobacco and snuff. Bet Reg remembers that one! The driver of the van was a guy called Terry who at one time was an apprentice at STFC. Don't know when that one shut but it was about 40 years ago as well!!

Rustle, there is a shop in Fleet Street that sells loose tobacco, snuff etc. Jobanputra I think it is called, used to call in to get my papers occasionally. Jo is a decent guy and may be able to help you.

Yep - Richard finally retired at the start of the summer, and trade was so bad he couldn't sell it on as a business. Ducks newsagents in Devizes (more or less opposite Tesco's) keeps cigars/pipes etc.

There's a cigar shop in Bath just down a side road from Bath Abbey. Other than that you could try http://www.simplycigars.co.uk - good online source that I've found...

If you're in London, St James's (gentleman's club-land) has a number of these places. Pricey, of course. But several have their own in house humidors and will no doubt impress if you're in to cigars. Two for starters are Davidoff and JJ Fox, both on St James's Street. I went to JJ Fox years ago to buy a box of big fat Cubans for a stag weekend. Even though I knew next to nothing about cigars, they were very helpful. Went down very well indeed. JJ FoxDavidoff
