It means its more serious than yellow  edit: Green - No severe weatehr Yellow - Be aware Orange - Be prepared Red - Take action |

Be prepared,be ready,(like at a traffic light) for serious weather....winds rain or snow.
May not happen but be prepared is what it means.......they are used a lot in Asia etc as warnings for hurricanes,torrential rain etc.

We get snow but it depends if it sets or not. We had a fair bit yesterday but it just melted away instantly.
