I agree with Johnny. Let them make their own decision. Religion to me, is really fucked up!

Religion is by far and away the main cause of conflict and war.  For that reason, I'm out.

It's the reason my parents didn't have me christened and I'm glad they didn't, I'm as non religious as they come and I wouldn't like it if I had been as its not the sort of thing you can undo.

Yeah but if you are as non-religious as they come you wouldn't care because being christened would have no meaning  Cheesy

FWIW we didn't get either of our children christened. Thought it might be a bit hypocritical. Each to their own though - 99.9% of religious people are just like 99.9% of non religious people.

My old science teacher is one and his name sounds exactly like Bruce Wayne but it isn't actually Bruce Wayne. Safe to say he hated being called Batman.

Anyway, he came round my house a couple of years ago. That was awkward. "Sorry Mr. S I'm just not buying it."

Hmmmm...that's a little bit naive!  Do you really think that there would have been many fewer wars had there been no religious disagreement?  It is true that there is a religious element to many conflicts, but I suggest that very few are about religion at their core....just an excuse to feed our craze for power - a human condition, not particularly a religious one.

Has anyone ever seen the Southpark episode on mormons? Not always a huge fan of that show but that episode is classic.

There is a big difference between being the biggest cause and being the biggest excuse

It does have meaning though, it would mean I was technically an official member of the god squad. Bit like if someone bought you an Oxford United fan club membership, you might hate them but you'll still be a member of their fan club.

But you think god doesn't exist. Therefore there are no consequences of being christened or not being christened. You are only part of the god squad to the god squad memebers.

Oxford United do exist. Unfortunately.

I don't encounter JWs too often. However, I learnt recently that their whole theology is based on a mistranslation of one word in John's gospel. I'll have to resist the urge to sit them down and explain it to them next time they call!

As for the whole Christening thing, I don't really see the point in it. but at the same time I don't see much reason to be upset if you were Christened, as it's not something that binds you to be a Christian.

Religion's a bit like brussel sprouts. Used to hate it as a youngster as it was forced on me but it's alright now with a bit of gravy.

It's called a cloak.

Religion is used as a cloak.
