Crawley Town midfielder Hope Akpan has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association.
The 20-year-old is charged with "acting in a manner which was improper and/or brought the game into disrepute".
The charge relates to homophobic comments posted on his Twitter account, which Akpan says were written by a younger member of his family.
Akpan, who has made 13 appearances for the Reds this season, has until 15 November to respond to the FA.
