Id have liked to see Thorpe in just becuase he's probably the best player of spin that weve ever had, at Old Trafford your going to have Macgill at one end and Warne at the other so im sure he will come back into the squad for that Test match.

Well he's injured isn't he. Who's this Pietersen, one of the trialists?

well done lads...

Pietersen is the right choice, thorpe is retiring soon from international cricket and also pietersen is something for the future, and australia is a great start.

Top work by the selectors

Thorpe is gone, shown by his performance in South Africa and county cricket this year

Thorpe is an old man. Pietersen also brings in some class fielding. To the England team he will also bring a bit of a healthy cockiness to the team.

One other thing tho is Pietersen the first player to play test cricket for another country than his origin?

Reg you might know the answer.

No, there have been hundreds of players who have played for another country other than that of where they were born.

In the last 10 years we've had Craig White (Aus), Adam Hollioake (Aus), Ben Hollioake (Aus), Graeme Hick (Zim), Andrew Strauss (SA), Andy Caddick (NZ), Nasser Hussain (India), Usman Afzaal (Pakistan), Devon Malcolm (WI) etc. etc. etc.

  Not to mention, Thorpe (NZ), Mullally (Aus), Geriant Jones (Papua New Guinea/Aus upbringing), Dean Headley (WI). Thats just the recent ones.

Then you've got all those players from the apartheid era. Graeme Smith (Zim/Rho), Tony Greig (SA), Allan Lamb (SA) etc etc. Loads.

All I will say is that the recent ones tend to be doing it for the allure and the passion of the England cricket team. Rather than doing it because their own country was banned.
