Is it just me or is anyone else bored with the Champions League?

Villareal took 17 fans to Manchester for their game against City.

I've been bored of it for a few years now but still watch the games when there is nothing else on. The group stages are the worst. Slow, boring games where both teams are happy to take a draw. It really is boring.

The knockout stages used to be brilliant and you used to get loads of teams going for it and the away goal rule made things interesting now it's become a snorefest as well as teams will try and keep it tight in the away leg. Too cautious nowadays. I really enjoyed it when Liverpool won it a few years back simply because you knew there were goals in them and that they would attack and score as well as concede. You'll be lucky to see more than a 1-0 or 2-1 these days.

Take our game the other night for example. End to end with both teams keen on taking the 3 points. If that was a CL game both teams would shut up shop at 60 minutes and play out a 0-0.

Yeah it's getting a little tedious. I still watch it though, football's football and I'll watch pretty much any game if I can get it on me telly.

If they made it a point per goal it might make it more entertaining.

This. It's usually better than all the other crap that is on.

Man City's group is pretty good. Four decent teams in one group would actually be fun, but it happens so rarely...

Couldn't give a fuck about it and not a patch on the JPT.

Its not interesting compared to lower league football.  The FA cup is still entertaining.  The league cup is worth watching.  The JPT is pretty good.  The premier league is entertaining if you switch your brain off and forget about the off the field context.  International football is OK sometimes.  The champions league I find the least interesting - but its still better to watch football than anything else on the TV.

Us lower leaguers can get a little righteous and snooty when it comes to the Premier and Champions League.

I can't get excited over an Arsenal victory in Europe in the same way as I won't get excited over a Rochdale win over Tranmere. I'm not the target audience, I don't care and therefore I no longer watch that much. Don't get me wrong, I watch games on television but there's just so much that it's hard to get excited about it! There's plenty of good football up there.

Personally, I prefer watching football from the stands whether it's within the top flight or at a non-league ground.

It still annoys me that they call it the Champions League, when the majority of the teams in it are not Champions.

When was the last time Man City were champions*, (this isn't a quiz by the way, just making a point)

Strangely enough, when it was only for the Champions (and holders), it was referred to by the media as the European Cup.

Anyway for what it's worth, yes I am bored by it

Fully agree. It's a joke that if you finish third in the group stages, you play in the Europa League. It's ironic that the top clubs complain about too many games, yet the only competitions that have made the tournaments bigger meaning you have to play more games to win the competition are the Champions/Europa League. Fulham played 19 games to get through to the Europa final a few years ago.

I'll watch the final...otherwise means very little to me.  But then I'm not Chinese or Malaysian, and that's the market UEFA are really going after.
