I've always been interested in the fact that women apparently hold records for catching big fish.  The theory goes that fish especially salmon have a keen sense of smell and pick up on female pheromones....they can't resist, like a lot of blokes.

So a good tip is to pack some of your missus's dirty undies in your tackle  Smiley

The biggest surprise in this thread is that Crispy seems quite knowledgable on a subject...

I presume he only catches whitebait ?

Love fishing as much as following the Town. I mainly fish for Barbel. Went at the weekend but blanked on the River Teme into dark. Need some Rain.

Advice I would give is:

1. Fish for bites and not for fish. Sounds daft but get used to striking, timing and landing.
2. Fish with the smallest possible hook to size of bait
3. Fish with the smallest diameter line as poosible without harming the fish by "snapping up"
4. Bait presentation and actual bait is everything.
5. Talk to other Anglers on the waters you fish and most of all watch and learn.
6. Take a camera.

A early Autumn 12lb 6oz Barbel last season on home made paste.

Best ever catch - 3 Seasons ago early season on Thames - 14 Barbel in one Morning (2 Doubles in the catch) 13 Chub also in that session with 2 over 5LB. Simply magical but blanks are part of the sport when you target particular species.

Tight Lines.

You're not fooling anyone Banbury, it's clearly the same fish that you bought from Asda fish counter. You can see it still has icicles on its mouth Wink
