After many years spent abusing my body with various sporting activities, I am toying with the idea of taking up fishing again.
Nothing to serious, just the odd day spent on the various lakes and ponds around the town.
Can anybody point me in the right direction as to what I should be looking for tackle wise, and where to buy it and what to avoid?

Hinders in Swindon is decent for tackle. Depends what type for fishing your doing for what tackle you use. At my local lake I find the carp bite fine on just sweetcorn and SPAM meat, but floating bread works too.
My prefered set up is a Float Rod with a 2bb float on and obviously the 2 bb weights, just bottom fishing with SPAM. I've got all the rigs and boilies and what not, but don't seem to get on with that too well!

Cheers Crispy, I fished a lot as a kid, most of it on plaum's pit and Telfords pool in rodbourne, mainly for tench, roach, etc, so am basically looking to do the same. I will need the works, rod, reel, nets, brolly, comfy chair and so on. Is the House of angling on commercial road any good? |

I used to fish in Raychem Lagoon when I was younger, about 3-4 years ago. Was decent then, fair amount of decent sized bream and a number of carp around the 10lb mark. Not sure what it's like now though.
I used to catch shit loads of bream with a quiver tip, just using maggots or sweetcorn.

Never been to the House of Angling, Only Hinders as far as Tackle shops in Swindon goes. If you want a save a few pennies i suggest buying a decent sized tackle box that could double up as a seat. Some of the chairs are quite expensive! Also recommend avoiding the flavored sweetcorn - In my experience it comes off hook far too often on a long cast! |
