Said for a long time Karl 'Junior' Lewis would be a superb signing. In terms of what we have been and are currently missing he fits the bill perfectly.
Solid physical holding midfielder, very good talker and versatile; can play in both defence and central midfield.
On both occasions he's arrived on loan he's had a major impact. Couple of seasons back both he and Marney mde a major contribution in the push for the PO's. Both departed and the rest was history. Season before last with his arrival that sorry run of defeats finally ended against Port Vale.
Must confess I don't know great deal about Smith, only what I have read on Tinternet and having seen him a few times briefly on the box. I'd have to say though Lewis would be my top choice for that position. May not have the leadership experience of Smith but has a few years on him and is still a very good talker on the pitch. Strange why they are letting him go after he only signed an extension a couple of months back.

wages might be a problem again I suppose. And with Smith being given 48 hours to decide, someone might snap up Lewis first

I'd much rather have Smith but could be an option if we can't get him if we can afford anyone else.

Plus he's left for first team football and I'd bet likely to go to a league one club so he's likely looking to take a cut.

no chance we could get both I suppose? As Lewis plays CB as well, he might be the missing part of King's puzzle

Sign him up, I always thought he was quality when we had him.
Seems strange to be released on a free by Hull though, is there any reason for this?

We must have an advantage considering he has been here before.

Junior Lewis is not great, I would much rather sign Paul Smith.
