Am getting a new pc for my new house this weekend, could anyone suggest a broadband provider, what are the best places to look for deals? a mate said that he uses ZEN as they are little more expensive than the likes of BT but with better service and no limitations on usage?

i'm using bt-yahoo 2meg broadband @ 29.99pm.

the download limit is something like 30gb pm which to me is a massive amount considering most harddrives are only 40gb.

You get loads of extras like spam filter etc and a 10gb email account.

have never had any problems with it so far (touch wood) so would recomend it.
not used anything else so can't compare

check it out

I'm with Zen.

Plus: No capping/throttling. Good customer support. Monthly contract.
Negs: Expensive. Only one POP mail account (mutliple aliases). Can't seem to pay by direct debit (get invoiced??).

I'm with NTL. It's ace when it works properly, but their customer service is awful and it takes hours to get even the most simple problem fixed. If I wasn't in a shared house I wouldn't even consider them, but I had to have a cable modem (since we don't have a phone) so all I could get was NTL.

Not any more they're not. In fact you'd be hard pushed to buy a 40Gb drive these days (unless you go to PC World in which case you deserve everything you get!) - I just bought a 200Gb SATA drive for 70-odd quid and the same place is doing 80Gb for 35 quid. You can never have enough disk space - as soon as you think you've got enough, some bastard comes up with a new way of filling it.

I can remember years ago buying a 30Mb (ie meg not gig) drive for 100 quid on the grounds that "that's more storage space than I could ever possibly need". Yeah, right.

Oh and on topic, I'm with plus.com - uncapped, never had any problems with it in two years. And I don't download anywhere near 30Gb a month - so having been all picky about drive sizes, I'd agree that should be a reasonable limit for the moment. Until streaming video starts to get a bit more usable, then you'll burn 30Gb in a week, easy. Bandwidth's like drive space - if you don't need more now, you will do soon so grab it while you can

I've got NTL, 1mb, 9.99 per month. Works fine for me, depends how much you want to download though, not sure if there is a limit, don't download enough to worry.
