PAOLO Di Canio has demanded that his players become nastier if Swindon are to harbour serious ambitions of mounting a promotion challenge this season.

Not the smartest thing to say was it?
If you're a ref reading that PdC has told his players to dive, surely the next time a Town player goes down in the box (or anywhere) you'll have doubts about giving the decision?
Taken a little of the gloss off my love for all things Paolo, just hope the rumours about sexism and Kate Cady ain't true too!

Need to send them to the Suarez school of diving.

The stupid thing is we (as fans) want players to be honest & not fall over at the merest hint of contact, but as was proved on Friday night if you don't fall over then you dont get the penalty.

Sometimes you don't get the penalty, and sometimes you do.  I think Di Canio's comments are stupid and get us nowhere.  I can't think of a quicker way to get the club a reputation for diving/cheating...which can only work against us in the long term.

We all know Paolo doesn't always engage brain before speaking.  I just wish he wouldn't go off on one while the press were around.

But the ref can't win can he....if he had blew up for a pen and we miss it .....we would all scream blue murder that he didn't allow Ritchie the chance to score.
Though to be fair a few mates who went has said the ref was dismal at Macc.

Watching the highlights in this instance the time between foul and Ritchie fluffing the shot was negligible and no clear advantage was gained.  He could have made the decision straight after without a delay.

Yep...just as the ball was hitting the net Cheesy...hindsight is a lovely thing.
As i said the fact is refs cannot win in incidents like this and so to a degree can players.
Fair play to Ritchie for trying to score though....just a pity it wasn't Kerrouche who was through on goal Grin

But my point in this case was he could have. He saw it all unfold, he'd have known there was no advantage. So sometimes refs can apply common sense and  still be within the laws of the game.

But the fact is he didn't even give the foul full stop. So there was no advantage/penalty to decide!
