He's probably ended up in nick because of who he is.... It's a case of perspective. Very stupid to get himself caught though... Is the bird in question pressing charges?
If the driver acted on a 'fumble' then I imagine most of his trips end up at the cop station on a Saturday night - unlikely he would have been arrested if she hadn't said something although he would have probably still been searched and found in possession.
IF you thought a woman needed protecting are you saying you would have dropped them off and watched news of a rape/sexual assault in morning and felt a clear conscience - I certainly wouldn't... There must have been something that triggered the diversion and subsequent arrest and I doubt it was a case of "it's that cunt titus bramble having a fumble in the back of my cab - I'm going to take him to the police station for no reason..."
More likely it was a case of "WTF is that bloke doing snorting coke in the back of my cab and why is she saying get your hands off me... help!... and trying to get away? I won't intervene in case he stabs me so I'll quietly drop them off at the police station and let the old bill sort it out..."
