We've booked flights to Orlando at the end of May next year for 2 weeks. I thought I had a villa booked also, but the fool from work who owns it got the dates muddled up and it now turns out it's only available for one of the weeks we're there.
As the flights are now booked, we're completely restricted around those dates and I've spent the last 6 hours trawling the internet. There's literally hundreds of them, some look lovely, some not so and being a novice to the whole Disney thing, I don't know which the best area to stay in is, how far away from the parks is reasonable etc?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated and if anbody has ever stayed in a villa in Orlando and still has the details?

My daughter's in-laws own a villa there, in fact they are into the second week of a three week break right now, I will send you a link when they get back if you haven't fixed yourselves up by then. We have never been, but I do know it gets booked up quickly if that is any recommendation!!!

It wasn't recent but our villa in Indian Ridge was a lovely, perfectly situated and very private bungalow. I highly recommend that area.
Also stayed in Glenbrook which was nice as well, slightly less private and further away from the parks, but cheaper.

My folks own a couple of villas out there...1 on Solana and 1 on Westridge, which is only about 10 mins max off the I-4 and 10 mins away from Disney and 20 away from Universal
Always love going out there and the cheerleaders from the orlando magic arent bad either!

I remember there being a couple of nice hotels along International Drive if you have no luck with villas.
That's where Wonderworks is; the crazy upside down mansion that was "blown there by a tornado".

Really - that's where a lot of the villas seem to be based? My folks own a couple of villas out there...1 on Solana and 1 on Westridge, which is only about 10 mins max off the I-4 and 10 mins away from Disney and 20 away from Universal

As a regular in Orlando, and more so Disney, could I suggest you maybe book the other week in Disney itself, the benefits of staying in Disney far outweight the other hotels that you may find on International Drive, for a start you're in Disney already, so you get the transportation to the four parks, the two water parks and Downtown Disney free of charge, you get extra hours where non resort staying guests don't, it's the end of May so you'll ge tot see the Star Wars weekends, and the prices if done properly can be releatively cheap. Disney has 3 levels of resort, cheapo (All Star Sports, Pop Century etc), the moderate ones (Port Orleans Riverside - highly recommended - and French Quarter, Caribbean etc), and the expensive ones (Grand Floridian, Yacht and Beach club etc).
Plenty of companies, Monarch, Thomas Cook, Travel City Direct, Virgin, all do offers too at certain times of the year, such as 14 nights for the price of 7, free Disney dining plans and discounted park tickets (always pre-book your park tickets).
If you're doing a fly-drive it's also very easy to get from Disney to Busch Gardens, Sea World, Universal, there's also a new Legoland theme park opened in Orlando too.
If you would prefer to stay outside of Disney then I would suggest somewhere on Internation Drive, or look at the Downtown Disney area, because whilst Downtown Disney is in Disney, there are hotels on the edge of Downtown Disney that are not Disney owned, I think for example Marriott have a hotel there?
