I'm hoping to run a few events whilst I'm back 'home' for the winter, season long football league, toboggan tournaments, maybe race and freestyle ski/boarding competitions for my fellow seasonairres and will need to put a few posters together.

I'm no good at this sort of thing at all, fine with ideas etc but no clue when it actually comes to producing something.

What should i be looking for?  Free would be my obvious preference.

Cheers for any suggestions

Scribus is a pretty decent and free option for desktop publishing (which is probably your best option for designing posters);
