How bizarre to play a friendly abroad during the season. I can't recall this sort of thing happening before....

Juve chose Notts County as the fixture of choice to open their new stadium.
It's football folklore that Juve used to play in pink until they came over here, played Notts County and adopted their black and white stripes.
Something along those lines anyway.

They must have been paid a healthy wedge to fly over there and play on a Thursday night.

I don't have much time for Juve, but this has boosted them in my estimate....originally County as the oldest pro club in te world....invited Juve to play a game to mark their 150th or something similar....at which point Juve invited them to play this game.
Certainly a nice touch.

Although County were formed around 1862 it wasn't until about 1890 that they started playing in their Black and White stripes. In-between they had several changes, black, black and Amber and even blue and brown. Apparently the kit washer of Juve washed all the colour out of their pink kit and asked someone from Nottingham for a football kit and he sent them the black and White stripes of County. Don't think any of the starting eleven were allowed to play more than an hour last night due to the their game Sat.

It was John Savage, an Englishman playing for Juventus, who in 1903 arranged for replacement shirts to be sent to the Italian club by a County-supporting friend back home, and Juventus have worn the black and white stripes Notts County traditionally play in ever since.
A return fixture between the two sides at Meadow Lane is planned before the start of the 2012-13 season.

In an age where we hear too many negative football stories, let's be honest... it's nice to hear something like this once in a while!
