Bollocks, I'm working 1-5pm in the Next Sale on the 23rd, which is a real bitch as it'll be a nightmare to convince them to let me off. So the real issue is, do I pull a sickie (bearing in mind I'm tempted to take the Wednesday off as well as I'm owed a few sickies), or do I tell them the truth and I say I have a hospital appointment and cannot possibly work?

If you ask for the time off and they say no, and then take it as a sickie they'll suss it. Can you swap shifts with someone? ie: do the morning instead or work Sunday? If not pull a sickie

Railway at 1 it is then chaps! Mex, are you driving, or going by train and having a few shandys? (I can do either) - bearing in mind you've got your club to run that night! JMH is coming, Walrus will get a kicking if he doesn't, BR is hoping to, and I've got 2 mates coming (AFC wombles and Gill's  )

Sorry, hadn't thought of that - apologies.
I'll make some calls and get things sorted for The Railway.

Right Station at one it is or I get beats I'm doing overtime so it should be simple enough to cancel. It must have slipped my mind. I've roped a few people into coming to see this friendly, see if we can't get the attendence over 50 yet!

This fixture v Crawley will provide a rare example of STFC playing a team who's name is also that of an England Test cricketer......the eponymous John Crawley....he of the getting beaten up in a bar in Cairns.
In total there are 3 other instances namely I. D. G . Salisbury purveyor of leg break and googly.....we beat Salisbury in the FA Cup 4-0 in 67.
Shrewsbury......Arthur Shrewsbury who played in the 1890's is a genuine legend of the English game.....he was an early sporting impresario, who took cricket teams to Oz and rugby to NZ.....he was also a very good player, he commited suicide in the Trent Bridge Inn.
And the Hon CJ Coventry in 1888, who I know nothing about. I knew about Crawley and Salisbury but how the hell can you remember about Arthur Shrewsbury.

Right then, looks like we're meeting at The Railway, in Crawley at 1pm. We'll all be driving I think, so it'll be a leisurely pint or two beforehand. Anyone got a problem with this then let me know?
I'll post directions for you if need be - it's not far from the mighty 'Broadfield Stadium"!
Dex/Ash/Spence - PM me if you fancy a beer before the game. All others I'll call to confirm.
