It IS being played at Crawley  Beers

Rang STFC today:

Sussex Red: Hello, can you tell me if the pre-season against Crawley will be played at the Broadfield Stadium?

Bint on phone: Hang on I'll check with a colleague...

Bint on phone: As far as we are aware, yes.

Sussex Red: Thanks, you've been most helpful, goodbye.

I wasn't convinced by this so rang Crawley to double check, and they said yes it is being played here.

Saturday 23rd July, 3pm.

If anyone fancies it, a beer before the game? Let me know and I'll PM you my mob no. and we'll sort something.

If not I'll just go and sit on my own Hmmm...

Good point Yeovil Cheesy

I should have been more specific - Walrus, Mex, JMH, adje (BR is back in Swindon I think) or anyone else on here that's fairly local.

He does indeed.  Well up for that - it's my mate's 18th that day, but I wouldn't miss Swindon playing in Crawley for my own bloody wedding.  Though knowing mine, and STFC's luck, Crawley will win.

Sorry SR - I'd have texted back this evening but I was in the cinema having the shite scared out of me (The Descent, horrible film!) and was worried about waking you up or summat!

I'm definitely up for going to the game and for meeting up beforehand for a drink.

Walrus, you’re probably the best man to nominate a meeting place/pub.

I should be making the trip down. Best pre-season opportunity to gauge our prospects / rate the new signings.

Best be fucking sunny though!

There's a pub on the Broadfield Stadium complex I think, don't know if it's any good as I haven't been there since I was about 9...  Think it's called The Tavern but my memory could be fucking with me.  Probably best place to meet as it's a trek from the town centre where the "good" pubs are...  Though SR is probably best qualified to know the best boozers seeing as he works just a few yards up the road!

This fixture v Crawley will provide a rare example of STFC playing a team who's name is also that of an England Test cricketer......the eponymous John Crawley....he of the getting beaten up in a bar in Cairns.

In total there are 3 other instances namely I. D. G . Salisbury purveyor of leg break and googly.....we beat Salisbury in the FA Cup 4-0 in 67.

Shrewsbury......Arthur Shrewsbury who played in the 1890's is a genuine legend of the English game.....he was an early sporting impresario, who took cricket teams to Oz and rugby to NZ.....he was also a very good player, he commited suicide in the Trent Bridge Inn.

And the Hon CJ Coventry in 1888, who I know nothing about.
