He is the aforementioned move from manager to assistant manager was back in 2003. Although I always thought the plan was he’d work under the tutelage of Howard Wilkinson for a year or two and then when Wilkinson retired Cotterill would take over - but they both got sacked after about 30 games because Sunderland were dog shit that year. If what I believe was the case - was true, there is at least some logic behind leaving a lower league club as manager to go a premier league club as an assistant for a year or two before taking over. Obviously not the case at Villa - unless Gerrard is off somewhere soon which I can’t see…

No idea what sort of record he has as a manager but managing at a national level is no mean feat and Columbia arent like India or Pakistan they have actually made it to World Cup finals recently.
