He's got quite a decent CV as a coach to be fair to him, but it's hilarious that he sacked the manager and appointed himself.

I see Phil Parkinson has been appointed manager at Sunderland. I thought Jack Ross was a bit unlucky to get the sack, they are 7th, have lost 2 games in all competitions and have beaten 2 teams from higher leagues in the League Cup. I read one of the issues was Ross’s style of football wasn’t popular with supporters. If that’s the case they won’t like Parkinson’s usual hoof ball either.

Fair play, he did great at Macclesfield under very difficult circumstances. Southend are a very different proposition.

I think he'll do alright. Except if there's racist abuse there (didn't Theo Robinson experience it from his own fans?) could be difficult. Maybe that is part of the reason the club have appointed him? Also, he wasn't 'managing' tonight, was just in the stands. First game in charge is Sat

Well that sounds like a Paulism to me. All manager appointments end badly, eventually.

95% true, the managers that move on to better jobs are the only exception, Macari at Swindon, Hoddle, Cowley at Lincoln. They are more of a rarity now though as there are many decent manager out of work so no compensation is needed employing them.

It's true to say most managers will get the sack. But given the size of the guaranteed pay off and the availability of work in the ancillary industry (coaching, assisting etc) it's a decent gig when established. Look at a couple like the 2 Garys ... Monk and Rowett. Both now on their 5th job, Monk in 5 years Rowett in 7 years. Both in their 40's, have had OK spells here and there but then sacked with a nice pay off onto the next one. What qualities do you need looking managerial helps, and I guess it needs saying that means white still. Being reasonably articulate helps, and then getting your name out there by doing something for a while. There's more future by getting your name attached to "progressive" football. That's one of the reasons why English managers, have a bad rep on the continent....

Hardly surprising, it may be step down in league but its a step up in infrastructure.

Closer to his home on the Wirral, Morecambe fans are pretty ambivalent towards him with some fans saying he should have gone earlier after it all went a bit limp but thanking him for his service, the longest manager in the football league till today. He resigned from his post before joining Fylde.
He is going to strugglers Fylde on a large wage hike too apparently and being given a large budget to bring in new signings.
Morecambe were a fairly poor side when they played us he will have far more funding at Fylde than Morecambe who he was with since 2002 as a player, capt, coach and manager.
Could be fairly difficult for Morecambe to attract a decent new manager with their money problems and poor crowds.
