Seems a bit of a rash decision - if they'd beaten Millwall they'd currently be 4th and just two points off second. You've only got to look at Forest to see the risk in sacking a manager who only makes the top 6 and not the top 2.

Crazy decision but then again a Leicester manager lasts about 4 or 5 months on average these days.

Would imagine if O'Neil wants it he gets it.

Paul Buckle on the verge of leaving Rovers, loads of rumours from my Rovers supporting mates that hes not been at the club for 2 days, don't know if would be the sack but they havent had a good start and a 3-0 home defeat Tuesday was the icing on the cake.

Looks like we dodged a bullet with Buckle.

Oh and huge amounts of unrest behind the scenes with players wanting to leave like ex Swindon target Campbell.

Amazing how sentiment can turn so quickly.  At the start of the season:

  • We had missed a real opportunity by letting Rovers get to him first.
  • Buckle had signed great players for Rovers within weeks of getting there, with all the right experience.
  • Rovers were going to lead the charge in the division.

He was the safe option vs our riskier approach with PDC.  I won't go looking for posts, but I'm sure it's all there.  All guesswork, really, isn't it.

Not sure that because a manager fails at one club it necessarily means he'll fail at another...take Johnson at Cobblers, loads on here saw him as the man to take over from Wilson...very reasonable previous record, but a dire time with Northampton.  Think sometimes it's a case of being at the right club at the right time.

Wilson has shown he's not completely useless, over many years, yet managed to produce just about our worst side in living memory....I suppose for him it was a case of wrong time....with player losses and sales, undermining his previous good work.

I'll hold my hands up and say Buckle was my choice. Happy to be wrong.

Bit early for wovers to be panic sacking yet though isn't it?

That is very true Reg, every manager can work miracles and can also be the devil incarnate at every club, it depends on so many factors and a lot of luck.

Buckle was never in my top 4 for the job at Swindon but I know he came close to signing for us, I think that he would have signed pretty much the same players with us as he has signed at Rovers, similar wage structure I would imagine as they have there, and pretty much all of his new signings have been inefectual.

I personally am still glad we chose PdC over him and all the other candidates though as they have all had fairly poor starts at their new clubs.
