It does seem a poor decision. I hope Glos Constabulary issue some kind of justification so we know why. For all I know, most of their pc's might be covering in London that day, so it might be that there are none left for their own commitments.

By the sounds of it, they're stretched to breaking point at the moment.  There was probably no one available to make the call.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Constabulary said:

"Following recent events in Gloucester, there is requirement for us to focus police resources to deter and deal with any potential disruption which may take place."

"As a result, it will not be possible to deploy officers alongside stewards in the ground or additional resources in the town centre on this occasion."

"This presents a safety risk for and we have therefore advised the club to postpone the match in the interests of ensuring the safety of everyone involved."

"We have an excellent relationship with the club and are grateful for their support in this matter."

Complete over-reaction.  Postponed because there was some trouble more than 10 miles away almost a week before the fixture.  Pathetic.

Sounds political to me.  Adding to the already strong calls to cancel planned cuts to police budgets.

Absolutely my thoughts.Government are secretly loving this.More abuse of power on its way.

We should all email callcentre@gloucestershire.police.uk in protest, and make it a makeshift petition to get the game back on, absolute farce this whole situation is! Not been this angry since our relegation

Have you really just used riot and Cheltenham in the same sentence?

If? If the game is on and the stadium gets blown up, everyone is also fucked, are we supposed to call the game off in case that happens too?

From the sounds of it , yea. What else have they got to do apart from controlling Aggies who are unhappy at the quality of the Quali eggs, or some toff whos had his Chordoroids bird shat on. Can easily Police are game, they need to man up.

Watkins seems to echo these sentiments, albeit sans the word "cunt"
