What if he signed and got 30 goals?
He'd still be a Scummer. If he scored a hat trick every game for us he'd still be a Scummer. But in a way worse than an ordinary Scummer because being a Town fan he knew what he was doing.

It'd be amazing....no Town player has scored 30 league goals in a season since Harry Morris.  Think we may have to settling for something altogether more modest this season.

Could argue he's an experienced goalscorer, more so than Leon Clarke

Eh?  That's a bit like comparing di Canio with Sam Parkin.

Virtually all of Constable's goals are in non league, whereas Clarke's are in the top few divisions.  Granted Constable has more but don't you think Clarke would in the Conference?

We've had enough Scummers connected to the club - Bumchum, Todd, Crosby. I won't make exceptions but I do feel a bit mean putting Mark Jones in the same bracket with that lot but he's still a Scummer.

And, of course, Mooney.

...because being a Town fan he knew what he was doing.

Got me thinking...when was the last time we had an out & out Town fan playing for us?  Someone who grew up dreaming of playing for the club?  (Asked the question because I couldn't think of anyone, but now I'm wondering if Billy Bodin might fit the bill.)

From what I can gather, his fammily are proper Town fans. But he's someone typical of his age from this area and decided that STFC wasnt quite fashionable enough for him, and decided to tell people he supported Spurs (despite probably going to WHL a handful of times and the CG plenty).

But now the day of rekonning is here. He lives in Bassett and knows scoring against us would make him a hate figure in his own area. Not even his own fammily want him to do well. Hits home I guess?

But if you take a different slant and say 30 goals in all competitions... (Which is what I meant Reginald)

I doubt it.  He's a professional footballer, and professional footballers don't think like fans do.  It's his livelihood.  While he plays for Oxford, he'll want to do well for them.  If he signs for us, he'll want to do well for us.  Simple.  This particular local rivalry has been on the back-burner for over a decade anyway, so I doubt he's devoted all that much time thinking about it, to be honest.

Well he'd be entering some very rarified company....since the War 4 players have managed 30 or better in all comps in a season..Coxy....Jimmy Quinn....Duncan Shearer and Don Rogers  (twice)

Michael Pook. Which makes the flack he got from our fans even more difficult to understand

Yes....good point....I'd rather have any of our current 5 strikers than Billy Paynter.

I'd have Connell over Paynter. The rest, no.

Yes....Connell is a year older, and has scored half the League goals of Paynter....makes sense to me.
