What pubs are people going to in Cheltenham? We ended up in the Sudeley Arms last time.

Just found this on the football ground guide:
"There is a club bar at the ground called the Robins Nest which allows in small numbers of away fans for a small admittance fee. The closest pub that I found to the ground was the Fox & Hounds, but it had more of a home feel about it. Away fans are probably better heading to the 'Sudeley Arms' or 'The Conservatory' on Prestbury Road on the outskirts of town. There is even a decent fish & chip shop situated in-between the two. To find these pubs, turn right out of the club car park, and then turn left at the end of the road. Go straight over the roundabout, and The Sudeley Arms is on your left and the Conservatory is further up on your right. It is no more than a ten minute walk from the ground.
Otherwise there is the Parklands Social Club, where you can also park your car (£4). Simply go down Whaddon Road, passing the ground and the bowling club on your left. Take the first left hand turn and the entrance to the social club car park is a short distance down on the left. Robert Middleston a visiting Nottingham Forest fan adds; 'The Club had a friendly welcome, and the locals we met were all happy to chat football. The club has a number of TV screens including a very big screen, on which the Sky Premier plus game was broadcast, a nice way to pass time over a sandwich and pint before the match'.
Chris Clarke informs me; 'A good alternative is The Hewlett Arms which is a bit more cosmopolitan than other pubs in the local area, it can be found at the top of Hewlett Road which is about a 10 minute walk from the ground'."
Not sure where everyone else is going so would be nice to get some other people's views.

Anyone remember the 'Cat and Fiddle' or as I used to call it 'Cat and Piddle' ?
It was near the ground but I think it's shut down now. Rough old boozer.

Thanks for the info Slinky. Haven't worked out where I'm going yet but those sound like good shouts.

No problem. I'm still undecided myself so I'm going to wait and see what the general consensus is on here before I make my decision.

Last time we went, we walked into town from the train station... Which took a good old while, but there was a Weatherspoons in the town centre and then we went round the corner to some other pub - which I think was the one where some trouble kicked off outside or whatever it was that was mentioned further up.

We always end up in some pub where some rough looking old timers seem consigned to playing dominoes/cribbage. Always get the "outsiiiider" stare but then they settle back down. God knows what its called, or where it is, or how we always end up there. Its a 10 min walk from the ground or so.

Id say Cheltenham is the best away day in the South West for pubs. The pubs near the station are a waste of time before the game, you need to get on with it and walk into town (or get a taxi). Used the Rotunda Tavern as a stop off before, its OK. Always gone to the Sudeley arms near the ground, good little pub. There is an off license on Whaddon road and a park if you are on a budget and the suns out.

I'd avoid this one. Sounds good in theory but will turn out to be a big disappointment.

The Conservatory looks OK and isn't that far from the ground. Anyone been there? Is it any good?

was great atmosphere in the conservatory and only 2pound a pint! We ambled past there and it looked a bit too classy from the outside. Serves us right for not investigating further! Never mind, had a cheap pint in the Sudeley Arms which did the trick.!

Fox and Hounds was decent. Walked in and they were blasting Voodoo People out in the bar!
