How anyone can say a player is shit after seeing them play for 70 minutes in the first game of a season is beyond me.  New club, new country and new players around him.  Give the poor fucker a chance.  He admitted himself that he was unhappy with his own performance.

No player can be labelled as shit after 70 minutes, not even Ben Hutchison, even he had 2 or 3 games.

Quote
Di Canio told the assembled press after the match that a selection of his players had been influenced by the loud Swindon crowd pre-match, and that it took a while to adapt to the conditions.

It maybe me but that comment worries me about 21st August

A game of two halves.  First half we were poor and some of our passing was atrocious.  Had it not been for Flint and Smith and some more clinical Crewe finishing, we could have gone in at half time a couple of goals down.  As it was, we stepped up a gear in the last 5 mins and got the penalty.

The second half was a completely different affair and after Rissers goal we completely dominated.  Flint deservedly MOM and great to see him score, he was superb throughout.

It may only have been one game, but to me, the players looked fitter, worked harder and there looked to be more team spirit than at any time last season.  Di Canio on the touchline was fascinating to watch and it was nice to see the whole bench show such emotion after we scored.  I also liked the fact that the whole squad was signalled to go onto the pitch at the end to applaud the supporters (and the support today was excellent).

For those that hadn't realised, today was the first home win of 2011, no wonder the reaction at the end was so immense.  Virtually the whole of the Arkells stayed to applaud the last player off the pitch.

On the basis there are still a few players out injured, I imagine there will be a fair few changes to the starting 11 over the coming weeks.  Assuming today did not see our strongest team, the result is fantastic.  Onwards we go, I've got a feeling it's going to be more fun being a Swindon fan this season  Cheesy

Aside from the game - and I maybe be pilloried for posting this - but a significant number of the Town End sung the 'Martin Aldridge' song including one or two that post on here. Much as I hate Oxford the song is not funny nor is it clever and I have no wish to be associated with it. Grow up.

Not convinced at all. He was shit, his positioning was shit, running off the ball was terrible. Timlin had to keep telling him to push up. Passing was rubbish too.

We played so much better when we had Macormack and Ferry in the middle.

I agree.
He looked off the pace and was caught out a number of times. Hopefully after a few games he'll get to grips with the pace of this league (& improve his fitness).
Nice to have Macormack and Ferry to bring on though  Grin

Think there is some embellishment going on, I never heard it, and I was right in the middle of the TE.

Not going to write a full match report as everything has been said already.

1st half J Smith and Risser were worryingly like Douglas and Prutton.

Overall the kids did alright.

Still would prefer to see Caddis at right wing as I think he is a better winger than full back.

Celebratory beer tonight.

Certainly no embellishment where I was, plenty singing it
