It's only a friendly but...

Quote
ALFRETON Town continued their pre-season build-up with a 14-0 victory over a youthful Sheffield Wednesday side who found themselves overwhelmed.

Wednesday fans are not happy:

Quote
First of all, there are absolutely no excuses for Sheffield Wednesday U18's being 0-14 by ANYBODY including Barcelona. And make no mistake, it's our strongest academy team. Cuff, Tumilty, Modest and Nyoni have all been around the first team set-up. Regardless of other factors, the players need to have a long, hard look at themselves, this level of performance is simply unacceptable.

=======

God this is embarrassing.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE scrap the youth team and start from scratch.

=======

the result already has its own facebook page :angry: with 1800 likes :angry:

etc

Would have been more if Prutton had played.

It was an 11 made up entirely of youth team players against a full strength Alfreton side, so not too shocking tbf, although the size of the defeat will get peoples attention.

Likewise think a Blackpool XI lost 9-0 to kendal the other week.

Don't worry though, they've signed Swindon's best player last season in Prutton Wink

Irrespective of the side Wednesday put out that is an embarrassment.

Imagine if a Swindon team had lost be that scoreline, there'd be a meltdown on here, never mind thisis!

Interesting. Bit unfair to put under 18s out there, but it does perhaps show the gulf in standard between lower league youth football and non league football? The standard of most youth football in this country is crap because the Prem clubs poach all the best players and what's left are totally overrated by their own clubs.

If anything, this probably shows us we should really get our asses in gear in sending out the likes of bodin, evans, thompson, etc. on loan to some decent non league set ups, obviously as high up as possible.

We haven't got a full reserve schedule next season and even if we did, they'd be far better off playing blue square south every week.

Were they actually under 18? There were some comments on one of their forums saying a half a dozen or so of them were on the fringes of the first team.
