From today's Observer :
Swindon are real wildcards - Paolo di Canio has signed a clutch of unknown foreigners. Anything could happen.
They've also said that PdC have worked them like dogs this summer. 11-1 to go up.
And they've made Crawley favourites....

Just watched Di Canio's speech he made at the open day. The bloke is a legend.
He mentioned greedy agents and how he has Swindon best interests at heart by not wasting the fans money.
Love him.

The Italians we've signed are from Italian lower leagues, where they're used to playing in tin pot little three sided stadiums.
Will come in handy in March

My point is I'd sooner listen to a Winner judge my tea/club than a loser. Entitled to an opinion, yes. Whether it counts for anything is another matter altogether. See you in May, Micky... When you are still picking your toenails as Paolo picks up the silverware.

Help me out with Crawley. I see a team with a spine made up of undoubtedly 1 or 2 decent players that should be playing at a higher level, a few journeymen and a scotch of non-league chaps albeit with some potential. They’re managed by Mr. popular Steve Evans who as decent as anon-league manager he is he’s hardly a class above and has a real bully boy reputation that usually results in toys out of pram. I don’t see anything beyond what other squads have to offer Town included. If anything while we have a smaller squad and a few wildcards in the foreign players and manager. I don’t see anything there whatsoever that indicates they will walk the league or even get auto promotion. They’ll be in the mix but as will Rovers, D&R and Shrewsbury followed by a chasing pack including the Pox but I cannot see why Crawley are being given so much credence

In all fairness if any other team had appointed PDC the majority here would have probably been saying the same things Adams' said.
The game is all about opinions. The day PDC was appointed i thought it was a terrible move, now i think it was an inspired choice.

Finally someone said what I have been thinking. I don't really know anything of Crawley, but have been continually scratching my head about why everyone seems to have them down as favourites. Bar Tubbs, I can't think of a single player in their team I consider as being anything special. And yeah, their manager is a tosspot with far from a glowing rep.

Crawley have plenty of league standard players and "money" if they need to enhance their squad.
It would be silly to write them off purely because you don't know much about them. As if we'd ever do that...!

I think alot of people expected Crawley to spend more than they have done this summer. By all accounts they have the financial backing, dodgy or otherwise...but have they even spent anything so far?

They have a few league standard players, and a few I know nothing about. They looked fairly handy last season it must be said. BUT, how will Evans react if they start to struggle? Will it be positive or detrimental? And another question would be whether or not they have enough strength in depth... If they lost Tubbs and/or Torres for any length of time what impact what that have on their results? I certainly wouldn't write them off, but favourites to win the league? I'm not so sure.

From the outside, you could make some adjustments to that and it would be Swindon Town. Again, I'm not touting anyone for the championship outright, just a promotion push.

All this talk about Crawley reminds me of when Carlisle was supposed to storm Div 2 (old Div 3) after the takeover by Michael Knighton. They got relegated (in fact they were bottom 4 all season) and we pissed the league. By the way, I see not many have mentioned us to be in the shake-up in this review, but it seems Crawley management think they're going to walk it after reading what their supporter thinks... http://theseventytwo.com/football-league/championship/2011/08/01/the-seventy-two-unfortunates-football-league-season-preview/

a bit odd in the intro to that review they mention us as one of 4 clubs that they hope don't go under for financial reasons (yet in our section the author gives ourselves an 8 of 10 rating for financial stability)
