Football League clubs vote in favour of five subs
           



  PAOLO Di Canio will have to name a matchday squad of 16 this season after Football League clubs today voted to reduce the number of substitutes that can be named in league games.

It makes sense logically, but maybe it would be worth only paying the players that play a win/appearance bonus rather then a whole matchday squad.

Can't the club just not chose to not give those players a bonus?

Not if it's in a contract. All I know that the reason it's was voted on was to save FL clubs money, especially in the lower leagues.

I used to like naming two subs only -it made picking the substitutes a tactical decision - with five, and especially seven, you can cover every position.
