Bit annoying but was always going to happen. Doesn't really change anything for me. The only snag is that public transport on a Sunday is shite.

Makes me laugh hearing people say it wont make any difference with the trouble. Its the sort of thing people used to say about hooliganism in the 1980s. Course it will.

Laugh away. Fact is the real, dedicated hooligans on both sides are more likely to get coked up rather than boozed up before any "engagement". Coke gives you wings, booze slows you down. Still, you know best.

I don't think Spence was saying there won't be any trouble, of course there will be, but that it will be lessened to a large degree. A lot of people get stupid after drinking too much and that can lead them to behaving like fuckwits.

'Real, dedicated hooligans'? Most of the ones I see nowadays must be on coke, or pepsi, they're nearly all about 12.

Come on, we all know that both clubs have dedicated, organised hooligans. I'm not talking about the excitable youngsters who might get a bit lively after a shandy, but the ones who wrecked the Dickens pub at Paddington a couple of seasons ago. I know for sure that from the Oxford side plenty of older, long-retired hoolies will be making a special trip, and I don't see why it would be any different from the Swindon side. Whether there's any actual trouble is another question. Probably minimal given the likely policing and CCTV coverage.

My bet is a lot of posturing, little if any contact.

The scene at Gillingham 4 or 5 years ago (first time we had played them in a while) was a sight to behold.  It was like a cross between Green Street and In Sickness and In Health...Class of 1975 skinhead reunion.  And I'd never seen any of them in my life.

No doubt the same crew will show up for the Oxford game.  Wouldn't really call them Town fans, to be honest.  Just a group of geriatric baldies with nothing else to do who also happen to like a bit of fighting now & then.

All the lads will be making plans, and then come saturday night, they will be bored but excited about the derby on the sunday, and go out and get smashed saturday night.

It makes a huge difference in terms of the Pox's options in terms of getting public transport to Swindon and the number of pubs open for them. In fact I should think the only pubs open before midday in Swindon will be back door specials.

Easy decision for the Police. Be interesting to see what they would do for a mid week cup game. Seems to be the only time you get serious trouble in or around grounds these days (Villa Birmingham, West Ham Millwall etc). The dark reduces the effectiveness of CCTV, and of course fans take the whole day off. Birmingham Police have said that all derby games will have to be played at 1pm ko, be that mid week or not, and I should think other forces may follow.
