Well the clue is in the subject but......
I have been offered an alloment by the council I think I put my name on a list about 3 years ago. Now alot has changed since but I am kinda still intrested but kinda not at the same time. Notsure if I can really be arsed with it.
Does anyone have an alloment?

Is that down the new ones in Haydon Wick? You've done well to have only waited 3 years. My husband's also just been offered one and accepted it, but he's been on a waiting list for 9 years!
I'd be inclined to say take it and if after a year or so you're not using it give it up. You'll only have lost £25 or whatever the annual rent is. If you turn it down and decide at a later date you want one, you'll go to the bottom of the list and might have years to wait.
A couple of friends have got them and save a fortune on veg.

Ed's got one. Watch out you dont start talking down the pub about how to stop caterpillars eating your cabbages because everyone else will bore off.
My Special Brew drinking boss has one. Ive said one day in the summer I'll go up and help him with 10 minutes of digging and then we'll get the beers out.

Bassett has got some very picturesque alotments. Used to go down the Co-op with L, get a couple of beers and drink them sitting on other peoples benches, watching the sun go down. Not bad at all.

I used to have one, but it was a bit of a distance from my house, which meant a bit of an effort to get there.
I decided too much effort.....thought I'd look at one a bit closer to my house, and noticed a very small one in the Lawns. On enquiry at the Council was told there were none available....hey ho.

They're taken out by developers....when there's none left and no rhubarb growing the Council can claim they're not wanted and sell to the developer.

I moved between parishes a couple of years ago and had to give mine up. The parish I live in now doesn't have any. I really miss it, and would love to have one again.

Don't think so reg most alloments are protected from development under the alloment act 1950.

Something like 200,000 allotments have been lost to developers in the last 30 years....

Reg - that figure might be misleading. I am aware of a few local allotment sites that have been developed for housing, but they were all replaced with allotments elsewhere, and mostly with an increased number of plots. There have also been some completely new sites locally to help meet demand. Where I live on Devizes there are more allotment plots now than 20 years ago.
