FAN'S EYE - “The next chapter of this on-going soap opera and beyond!”

After what was a largely disappointing season after the highs of the campaign before, it was clear that the board needed to lift the doom and gloom that had descended upon SN1,writes Town fan

True. And we didn't concede a hundred goals like we did in the Prem so it wasn't all bad Roll Eyes

Fuck, another Dan the Fan.

Subs fault not his for the homophone though: flair not flare. Unless it is a satire on the Italian habit of bringing fireworks to games.

I liked the article.

Only think Id contend with is replacing Greer. Its time for Swindon fans to let that one go. We need a new captain, yes, but he doesnt have to be a centre back. In comparison to other areas we do have decent centre backs. Full backs is a big problem. 2 first team places up for grabs if Caddis is pushed forward as you propose (and Id agree with that).

Are you son of Andy by any chance?

Which centre backs do you rate Spencer?

Havent we only got Flint signed up next season? maybe Will Evans to?

I agree in so much that we need a new captain and a new leading centre back. Could be two separate players or the same one really.

At least with our full backs we have Amankwaah, Caddis (who I'd also like to see as a winger) Thompson and Kennedy - much stronger than our current centre backs I'd say.

Unless I've stupidly missed someone apart from that fake player we never actually signed!

we do indeed, pretty much ancient history now.  we never really replaced kevin horlock but we don't see people saying that all the time

I think Lescinel will sign up again. Weve paid so much for Flint weve got to give him a good go, so thats our first choice pairing (admit it lacks experience). I like the look of Evans.

Thompson is promising, but should still be second choice in a decent team. Kennedy is overrated by Town fans in my opinion and I dont think hes going to make it (sorry to be negative). Amankwaah will depend on how he gets on with Di Canio, if they hit it off then yeah. Danny Wilson seemed to be a bit of a father figure for him, no other manager has got anywhere near the same level of performances out of Kevin Amankwaah. I do rate him, but we cant rely on him.

Fair points and like you I think Lescinel will sign. I dont like the sound of a Lescinel/Flint pairing though. That sounds even worse then Lescinel/Cuthbert. None of us have seen alot of Flint but he isnt as good as Cuthbert I dont think, so if Lescinel and Cuthbert couldnt cut it as a pair then I dont see why Lescinel and Flint would?

Evans has looked decent but on further investigation I dont think he is actually signed up for next season.

Having watched alot of Thompson in the reserves I think he's a bit more than promising although I guess he until he gets a chance he cant prove himself. Dont agree that Kennedy is over rated, he's nothing brilliant but he's always been solid enough for us (much more so than Sheehan and Rose) fair point about Amankwaah.

Its been done to death I know but our defensive suffered terribly without that leader last season and I think going into another season without that leader would be promotion suicide.

The club should be looking to spend 10 months in L2 maximum!!

Flint might not be as good as Cuthbert, but he might be more of a leader. Saw him flailing his arms about a bit in the home game he played. I think Lescinel will always make the odd mistake, but I just think he is improving year on year.

I think the emergence of cliques in the squad exagerrated the loss of our captain (a great captain at that). So hopefully the squad will be more united this season.

Generally, the same opinion as you, lots of question marks, not many answers. Lots of players needed. We need to get out of this league and the board need to dig deep.

Suppose you could be right - although its not very often you get young leaders but its not impossible. Usually that leadership comes with experience.

I guess you could try and go with Flint & Lescinel if you had someone like Jamie Vincent at left back - another player people didnt perhaps appreciate fully till he wasnt here...

I'd still be in favour of a completely new back 5 come August to be perfectly honest.
