Anyone recommend a good national company who sell and fit carpets and laminate (including doing all the measuring etc. up front)?  I say national because its not for a property in Swindon so should I get a quote in Swindon, it can be transferred to the nearest office locally.

Carpet Right seem to do some good deals but not sure whether anyone can recommed anywhere else that I can compare them with?

They are a single shop based in Gloucester. Not sure how far out they travel.

Would have thought London would be more expensive for fitting so a quote might not he tranferrable, I suppose they can contact the local shop though.

Never used them, but these seem to be a nationwide organisation -

Also Topps tiles do laminate and wood flooring

Go to a chain for the carpets / laminate, they'll measure it up and plan the cuts. Then get someone local who is independent to come and do the fitting. All the chains do is farm the work out to them and then add a big margin on top.
