I see on SkySports this morning that Paul Buckle has been appointed Bristol Rovers Manager.  He could have done a job for us.

DOh, crossover. I posted the following in the Di Canio thread. Better off here I think:

Buckle has left Torquay to go to Bristol Rovers.

Out of Di Canio and Buckle, I'd have probably gone with the latter believe it or not. Still, if he didn't apply for our managers position its a non issue. We weren't poaching managers.

I'm surprised he went there.  Rovers are a poor long term prospect, in my view.  They'll never leave City's shadow.  Buckle's next move could well be career defining and, if I was him, I would have aimed a little higher than that.

Apparently Buckle had this wrapped up before the the Final was played.

Rovers are a bigger club than Torquay. There's no way he'd have been able to do the same thing every year on Torquay's budget.

You've got to fancy a punt on Paul Trollope replacing Buckle.

I'd have gone with Buckle. I was hoping we'd moved past the not poaching managers stuff but maybe we haven't.

I wonder how many faux-applicants Torquay United will receive?

I love how they don't have official club email addresses.

Whilst i'd have probably been happy with Buckle here part of me does wonder if he really is as good as people make out. He's done a great job at Torquay but let's see how he does on a slightly bigger budget. Rovers may be a bigger club but i'm surprised he's gone there as well. I would have thought he'd be looking at a L1 side really. I just think Rovers' financial situation probably isn't the best when you look at other clubs in the league but then again he's had to work with a poor budget at Torquay.

I suspect he looks at the Brizzle Rovers side and thinks that it ain't all that bad and just needs a little tweak to push on.

just to clarify,  I'm far from upset at di canio. I just have reservations on long term being here, lack of experience and lower league knowledge.

he will provide bigger excitement about the club though.  he may turn out better than buckle.

Buckle would have provided more scope for puns though...
