It seems that News Monkey is asleep.
http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/news/9011156.Ritch_pickings_for_Matt/MATT Ritchie has been voted Swindon Advertiser Swindon Town Player of the Year,
narrowly beating surprise challenger Vincent Pericard after the latter was backed by rogue voters from internet forums.
Fans disgruntled with Town’s dismal 2010/11 campaign seemed to be making a stand against what they felt was a meaningless award after a hugely forgettable nine months at the County Ground. And their collective efforts took Pericard, who has played only 68 minutes of first-team football since the turn of the year, to within a handful of votes of winning the coveted trophy.
However, winger Ritchie received enough support from those fans more keen to take the nomination process seriously to pip his strike partner to top spot.
The victory hands the former Portsmouth man a place among some all-time Swindon greats on the Adver trophy, including Don Rogers, Mike Summerbee and Colin Calderwood.
And the 21-year-old, who was young player of the year at Pompey during his spell on the south coast, was honoured to see his name among theirs.
“There are some big names on the trophy and it’s nice to be on there with them,” he said.
“I just try to put a shift in week in week out and I suppose it is good to be recognised.
“It’s good to know the fans appreciate you and obviously it gives you a little bit of a boost.”
Ritchie and his Robins teammates now have to adjust to life in League Two, but the wide man is confident they can make an instant return to League One in 2011/12.
“Something good has come out of a bad season and hopefully next year we can kick on and make it a good season all round,” he said. “It won’t be easy but I’m sure if the right people come in it’ll be a successful season next year.”
Anyone know what they're on about?
