Hi All.

Just a little concerned regarding Nick's programme comments( and i have emailed him to tell him so).

Regarding a whole new budgeting exercise for league 2- whilst i appreciate you are limited on what you can spend on your playing budget as it is as a % of turnover-i sincerely hope that we will not be scrimping and scraping in other areas as well- the fans deserve much better and at the end of the day it is the bopard that have got us into the mess in the first place.

People need to remember that we got out of Div 4 last time by spending money we didn't have, that won't happen this time....a drop in revenue will mean a drop in playing budget. The key to any success then will be in getting the management right....you can succeed in Div 4 on little resources...see D and R and Stanley.

here lies the peril....it's an inexact science....if we get it wrong then we could be looking at a season of struggle. Money might seem like a safe pair of hands, they wanted him last time, but wouldn't pay Newcastle.....but Money fucked up at Luton.

There's a line though.  As I know I've pointed out before, in terms of gates, we're one of the bigger teams in League 1 (although some of the 4 or 5 teams that beat us on that score clearly beat us by some way).  In League 2, we will be punching well, well below our weight - with a very comfortable advantage over almost all of the other sides in terms of revenues coming in.

So for that reason, we should be one of the bigger spenders in League 2...and we shouldn't be seeking to emulate the likes of Cheltenham or Aldershot.  Anything else would be perverse.

i dont know who is under contract next season, but from what i've heard some players earn it could dent what could be used on other players wages.
what some earn may also put clubs off coming in for them.

the mistakes made this season may yet bite even harder

Numbers and income don't necessarily equate....ask Bradford City, who easily eclipse anything we'll get, but are in danger of Conference next season.

In Div 4 you need honest players....this season we've had too many happy to take their money and give little in return....these need to go. Getting rid may not be a simple as we'd like.

Money would be a good shout if he wants the job.

He "fucked up" by getting them in the top 3 or 4 all season and they still have a decent chance of going up via the play-offs. With the money Crawley have spent thats not bad going!

Agreed.  But the point of the thread is the restrictions on the playing budget that will come in to play as a result of our relegation to League 2.  I don't deny that success is not guaranteed.  I'm simply pointing out that we will have a financial advantage over just about every one of the other clubs in the division.  And we need to exploit that.

They have clauses which state that they will take a pay cut, I think.

He signed a two year deal with an clause for a third which would be triggered by playing 25 games in his 2nd season. So technically he has triggered it and along with a wage cut he is under contract for another year. However I think that 3rd year is subject from approval from the club.
