I'm not 100% sure but i think a young David Villa played in that game.
It's possible he started at Gijon....how exciting I wonder if anyone can confirm

Yeah I've just checked and he did start his career at Gijon. It was him then.

No Reg, I understood what you said. I didn't read your post before I wrote mine. I've actually got some old photos of that game and I'm pretty sure it was him in one of them. Hence my first post in this thread. I just checked to see if he did play for Gijon. I will try and scan them and upload them.

Banks has deffo played here. Bobby Charlton played for Prestom here as player manager and scored the only goal. We have also had someone who scored a goal in a World Cup Final but lost play here the year after the final I believe. Any guesses?

My guess would be Dick Nanninga....who along with Jan Jongbloed, played for JC Roda Kerkrade

That was a brilliant pre season friendly against Roda JC in 79 winning 4-1 against a team full of internationals and that included Chris Kamara hitting the clock at the Stratton Bank with a penalty!
