Tried looking for stats on our longest run without a win but can't find one, can one of you stattos can help?
Apologies if this has been done elsewhere.
I'm that depressed by it all that I'd just like to know that things might have been worse at some point in our history!

Reg answered the question a few days ago in the 'Fitton & Co' thread.

We're making history!

As London Red says, we're still a few games off the club record which was set in 1999/2000 under Quinn.  However, we were in the second tier at that point (and dropping out of it fast).  In the lower leagues, we have never had such a poor run as the one we are having right now.

That puts things in context, I think.  This is not just a poor season...it's off the scale.  Certainly the worst season we have had in the 21 years I have been following the club and, very possibly, one of the worst 5 or 6 seasons in the club's history.

Exactly, context is everything. We've had bad season before. But this time there is no administration. Players have been paid. There is no panic appointment of ex-players as manager. As far as I can see we have invested a reasonable wedge on players and players wages.

In other words there is no reason you can point to and say "that is why we are here", unless you believe boardroom meddling in player/recruitment sales. And to me that is all heresay.

...which makes the whole thing all the more baffling.

Very soon, the post mortem will need to start - and I don't think that this can take place entirely behind closed doors.  Grateful as I am (still) for the off field stability that the board has brought to the club, surely now they have to hold their hands up and concede that on the football side, serious errors were made this season.

Self-sufficiency has been the 'buzz phrase' since they took over.  Maybe they felt that, after last season's relative successes, we could afford to lose the likes of Greer and promote from within?  Self-sufficiency/sustainability is a good aim, but now this simply looks like an error of judgement.

The ability of our board members to run a back office is not in question.  But their ability to take sound footballing decisions certainly is.  Clearly, there needs to be more scrutiny of the football decisions taken at board level in future.  Perhaps a Director of Football sitting on the board is now needed.

(I've taken another thread off at a tangent.  Apologies there.)

Has anyone noticed how much more Fitton's name is mentioned on here this season that last?
