Yea its a nice mix between serious and silly, good fun when it goes well but fucking frustrating when it all goes tits up!

My advice, don't leave the ERS series too early, if you win it take another year to boost your factory a bit more.

I've just finished second in my second season (Octave). I can see it's going to take years to have the facilities to progress much higher.

Today I treated myself to a couple of upgrades: An SSD and msi 970 gaming motherboard. Not only is my machine now a lot faster, but also the sound is fucking immense. I was not expecting such an improvement. Happy days.

An SSD is worth it! I managed to pick up a Samsung 850 Evo for £91 from Amazon in 2015 on a lightning deal.

Massive improvement on loading times for games and startup time for windows - Going from near 60 secs to 15 secs!

An SSD is by far and away the best cheap performance improvement for normal Windows, much better to spend £80 to £100 on an SSD than a similar amount (or even more) on memory or even processor.

The difference has been impressive. It now boots in a fraction of the time and opening files happens pretty much instantly, which is great for working and what not.

I'm also very impressed with the sound from my new MB. I'd never really bothered in the past and just settled for standard on-board jobbies. I don't think I'd want to settle for a standard sound card after knowing the difference now though, it really does make a huge difference, although I suppose that'll depend on the game being played.

I use a Soundblaster Z and the sound compared to a standard onboard is pretty amazing when twinned with good speakers or headphones.

A good SSD is a godsend, I use one 512gb for the OS and working files and one 512gb just for my steam installation, games load in seconds with the SSD.
