Any recommendation on where I can take the good lady out for a meal. Thinking Italian - possibly San Marcos Faringdon Road - never been there but heard good things - anyone been there. The Three Crowns Brinkworth is another possible but I'm too tight to pay for the taxi as we'd both want a beer. Looked at Colleys in Lechlade but the food all seemed poncy and too rich for me.  I wadn't very impressed with Fratellos or Bottelinos when I went there. Marios used to be good but I'm talking 20 years ago

The Red Lion in Cricklade is a good restaurant with an amazing range of beers!

Definitely worth checking it out.

My wife doesn't eat curry so I cook my own about 3 days a week.
La Carbonara looks interesting. Looks like I'll head down that way - thanks.

We were back home a couple of weeks ago and went to the Red Lion at Cricklade.  One of the very best meals I have had in ages and an amazing selection of beers.  A decent white wine was twelve quid as well.

Red Lion - noted.

Would recommend The Northey at Box (on the A4 between Bath and 'nam) for a mid-range pub/restaurant. Good range of mains between 11-16 quid, and more importantly 6X, Thatchers Gold and Stowford Press on draft.

Colleys is far from "poncy" it's nice food served nicely on a bed of niceness.

Cuccini's on Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, run by proper Italians, all dressed up fancy and with a 'mafia air' about them. None of this Pizza Express crap.

http://www.egyptmill.com/restaurant/

I deliver twice a week to Stroud...very under rated part of the country.

This lovely old place is pricey............but they have a good deal on through the summer(which i will be taking use of)......Sunday roast, nice room for the Sunday evening and breakfast on the monday morning.................£95 for two.
This place is a nice tranquill place which is strange because it is set in an area of industry in the old mills of Nailsworth.
While on the subject of Stroud the Saturday market is brilliant..........real old farmers market.
