Going to bite the bullet and replace the carpets with wooden flooring.
Any of you gayers got any recommendations on who to get fit it ?

Got to be the easiest DIY job you will ever have a go at, why pay someone to do it. Just get that "lock together" stuff and all you have to do is cut to the right length. piece of piece

I live in a 17th Century Cottage and the floor is about as level as the Marlborough Downs

Don't get anyone like Floors2go to do it.
They wanted to charge me £600 labour for my 50 sq meter area.
I got a local guy to do it for £200.

Either that or chuck a couple of bags of self-leveling compound down first.

are you sure laminate flooring is in keeping with a 17th century cottage? shouldnt you have wattle and daub on the floor or straw or something?

Go for real wood Fred, something like oak. Costs more but looks alot better and will complement a 17th century property.
