Wilson 'not bothered' by other results

DANNY Wilson insists he does not cast anxious glances towards other League One grounds on a matchday, the Swindon boss believing that looking after his own is the best policy, writes NED PAYNE.

Not bothered by other results is a useful philosophy if everything is in your own hands and you know what you're doing.  Given that our survival in this division depends very much on other teams (and Plymouth in particular) having a stinker for pretty much the rest of the season, this comment seems misplaced to me.

I guess he's trying to focus the squad inwards and not let them be affected too much by what's going on around. I suppose it technically is in our hands as if we win all our remaining games we'll stay up, so maybe he thinks that's the best way to get the team geared up to treat each game as must win.

We have to play plenty of the teams around us, which if we win those games would see us gain on them (obviously!!)

However, alot of people seem to be talking about Plymouth, why? sure they are sinking like a lead ballon right now but I dont think just finishing above Plymouth will be enough to ensure safety. No good finishing above Plymouth if they are 22nd!

I hope (pray) that Daggars and Walsall have hit form too early. Kind of like when we had a mini revival a few years ago only to slump again.

These kinds of articles usually come from the journo asking a question like "So, Danny, shitting yourself about Walsall v Dagenham then?" and the manager/player straight-batting it with "No, not at all, we just need to concentrate on our own performance". Would we rather he'd said "Fuck me, yes, it looks bloody dire doesn't it? We've clearly got no hope of stringing a series of wins together so unless everyone else implodes we're fucked, pretty much"?

The 4th relegation place has always done strange things to this League. You can go down with a very respectable points haul. One of the other clubs down with us will almost certainly produce a run to finnish with 50 points. So we have to make sure we get more than that.

In that respect Danny Wilson is right not to worry about other teams. Unless this league is an absolute freak and someone goes down with 55 points or something rediculous, that would be something to worry about.

On that note Spencer, why 4 down from Div 1? It helped us in our promotion season from Div2 but why the difference?

I think it was too keep the 4th division competitive back when there was only 1 relegation place down to the Conference.

At least that would be honest.

Perhaps just a little ill-advised though?
