Wonder why O'Neil wasn't given that sort of money to spend? Unless they're selling a few players to finance it.

That's nearly £50m in combined transfer fees in his career.
Is he really that good?

He's moved between Premiership teams, is English, relatively young and a goalscorer. All of those factors lead to inflated transfer values, he just has all of them so ends up looking a bit daft. Of course, if it's the difference between Villa staying up and going down then he's worth every penny, but Sunderland have a decent deal too: they have Gyan, Welbeck and Frazier Campbell in the position and can strengthen elsewhere with the money.

Alot of money for Sunderland to turn down, not to sure why why he would want to go though. Sunderland are 6th and with gyan and bent have got a very good chance of staying there while villa are struggling

To be fair that was on 5th Jan, when Sunderland were away at Villa. It is a lot of money but he's got the track record at Premiership level. Only Drogba and Rooney have scored more since he made his prem debut, so i don't think it's an outrageous fee given the sort of money that's been spent on Milner, Glen Johnson etc in the last few years.
