If that's true then you couldn't blame Pardew for taking the job! 5 1/2 years pay would make it well worth while...

66 months pay for being sacked after 18 if he doesn't live up to expectations? Can't be bad surely!

Apparently,Newcastle Chairman Derek Llambias is a good friend of Pardew,so i suppose it isn't
such a great surprise.

With the Mike Ashley regime still in place, someone like Martin O'Neill wouldn't touch it with a barge-pole.

5 and a half years for a manager who's level is probably half way up the Championship?

Hughton put a really exciting side together and walked the Championship last season. Loads of goals in their team.

Proof that they dont have a clue. Love to see them get relegated now.

Apparently Ashley and Pardew know eachother from a casino run by Llambias.

Sometimes, satire just has to give up and go home.

This remains very amusing.

Obviously working Gateshead, I work with loads of Newcastle fans.

They are mental for Newcastle United and talk a good game but what strikes me the most about the overwhelming majority of Newcastle fans I've encountered while living up here is how little they know about other football clubs (other than what Sky Sports News tell them).

Surely this is a joke? Alan Pardew? I would be gutted if he joined us as manager - and we're a half-arsed tinpot set up.

To be honest I think Pardew is a reasonable manager, who was really unlucky to be shafted by the board at Southampton. However, what I can't understand is how Ashley judges him to be a significant enough step up in quality Hughton. I would have placed them as roughly on a par.

I believe you'll find it was Pardew who was doing the shafting at Southampton

I think Pardew is a good manager but not premiership quality though

An incredible sideways appointment. I doubt my Geordie friends will allow this to have a happy ending.

I would love to have been a fly on the wall when those negotiations were taking place.  5½ years?!  Extraordinary.
