Austin is better in the air, better control and passing, a better finisher (higher scoring/chances ratio), drops back more and has a higher work rate. He doesn't score many from distance and doesn't take players on as much, but part of that is just due a difference in his style of play and positioning (he's more of a penalty area player than Cox). He does lack pace, but no more than Pericard or Dossevi or Paynter.
Sure Cox scored better goals, but what the fuck does that matter?
When it comes to how much we'd get for him, we'll get more for Austin for the reasons I gave before.

I'd rate them as both ultra shit hot at this level whatever their different attributes. Therefore the starting price is 1.9 million...

I think Cox gets the nod slightly due to having a better all around game and scored goals consistantly for a longer period of time than Charlie has so far. A lot of Charlie's value in the transfer market is down to potential and how much clubs are prepared to pay for that risk.
If you are a top half championship club with £2m to spend in January on a striker do you go for (a) Austin, (b) a current Champ striker with proven record or (c) someone like Coxy assuming WBA will let him go.
I think most clubs would play it safe and take option b or c.

Simon Cox never got the besotted doe-eyed love and adoration of Steve Claridge. Having Claridge tell Manish Bhasin, almost every week, that Charlie's the best striker in the league (mostly because he reminds him of himself) has got to add £500k to his price.

I'd imagine most clubs dont rely on the papers for advice on potential signings

My feeling is that Austin will be with us at least until the end of season...maybe into next...money talks wages wise but Austin loves it here and lets be honest off field we are gearing up for the Championship...if we get there this season i feel he will be here fairly long term...as for Brighton they are in cloud cuckoo land.....i would even say they still have work to do to go up...in fact on the last three games into account they are begining to struggle. As for Cox/Austin then Austin is the more clinical in my view and his hold up play is outstanding....lets remember he has been here a year and spent a month out......Cox was brilliant at sniffing out goals from anyware...them are the goals that got him noticed.

If he is still here next season with us in League 1 I would be amazed, I think we will hang on to him in January but its only a matter of time before he goes. Those who think we will/should get at least £3 million for him - deluded.

All speculation any price mentioned. The only fact is that 6 months and 20 goals ago AF said he wouldn't get out bed to respond to a 1 million offer.

Better touch, more pace (although niether are quick), better finisher, better workrate, better vision, better at making space for himself, better at making space for others... just generally more talent... look at some of the goals Cox scored for us, goals you'd never see Charlie score (Fenerbache and Walsall spring to mind).
For me, Charlie is the better finnisher. I also enjoy watching him more because of his desire to score. Its that mental strength as well, I think Cox's form was more patchy. But yes Cox was a very talented player. Probably technically the most talented player weve had at Swindon for 15+ years.
