I have got to stay loyal - Austin

CHARLIE Austin hinted he is keen to extend his County Ground stay, after confirming he is in discussions with Town over a new contract.

I hate news stories like this, to me it means he's almost definitely going in January.

Aye me too, not like he would say anything else really.  It would mean more if it was in reaction to him turning down a move to a Championship club with them offering treble what he is on here.

I'd rather he WANT to stay loyal, than feel the need he HAD to.

I'm more optimistic, I read that and my first thought was that's him staying with us until the Summer.

Anyone think promotion (long shot) could keep him at the club?

If we're around abouts the playoffs come January it will be an incentive for him to stay, if we're not it will be an incentive for him to leave. I'm sure he'd be more than happy playing for us in The Championship next season, unless a Premier League come in for him.

Or it could be completely out of his hands.

Have to remember last year he was labouring on a building site for about £250 a week. He is probably quite content at the moment as a first team pro picking up 2 or 3 grand a week.

This club is local to him and his family is close by. Whilst moving to say Newcastle he could probably get 4 or 5 times what he's earning here, would he enjoying living up north away from friends and family and keeping the bench warm every week?

He will leave eventually no doubt but not for another year I reckon at least.

To be honest once I got over the excitement of seeing such a headline once you read it, it doesn't say "I am here forever as I am loyal" just says he expects to fulfill his contract which is not being negative it's whats stated there. That said as mentioned above no doubt he feels indebted to STFC however he would have joined Bournemouth if we didnt snap him up after their embargo was lifted and they would be reaping the rewards. Yes he may feel like he owes us from bringing him in from the football wilderness however as mentioned above, he may be signing to up the transfer fee as a "thanks" although he is always pointing to the badge and seems to genuinly give a shit, ie celebrating with the fans. read somewhere he is a Swindon fan as well!
