This is the classic Joey Wingebag match, where the Town players gave him a good kicking. Look out for Mark Walters 'accidentally' giving Joey a kick in the head about 2:20 in and Gurnam Singh's greatest refereeing performance...

It did make sense at the time though. What tends to get forgotten is that Beauchamp had the potential to be a fantastic player. He had the ability to play in the Premier League but flushed it all down the toilet. In hindsight of course we shouldn't have signed him but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

The concept of signing players from Oxford does not bother me as such if they're any good. We get a good player, they lose one. It's a win win situation. The other way round is a different matter of course.

Watched that before but still, every time Walters catches him in the face, I cheer.

There are a few players - a very select few - who I would say it was a privilege to gave seen them in a Town shirt. Hoddle and Fjortoft are two, Walters is another. As you say, he was clearly past his best when he got to Swindon but he was still a joy to watch.

Swindon vs Portsmouth in the Littlewoods Cup in 1987/88....

First leg:

Second leg - contrast the recent coverage of Paolo di Canio versus Leon Clarke with this of Lou Macari versus Steve Foley!!

I remember going to both of those games.

The weather for the second leg was fucking awful, got a right soaking but after winning really didn't give a shit.

Odd thing is, as Lou said in his interview I think as fans we went down there almost expecting to win even though they were a First Division team. We had spent the last couple of seasons winning most weeks.
