Westwood that is.

As from tonight(Sunday)world number one in the golf world rankings.
Some may say by default because of Tigers woes, but there are many fine golfers out there and for an Englishman to be top of the pile is great news.
Lets hope he can go on and win a major in the coming years.

Remember he was hyped up a lot years ago and started off well in his career but went right down the shitter for a number of years where he was average at best and the last year or so he's been superb. Fair play to him. A sure sign that time is important in sport. I guess Jenson Button is another example. Hyped up and written off too early.

I'm pleased for Westwood that he has managed to hit #1, however it does seem a bit odd that he managed to make #1 without playing because someone else (who wasn't #1) finished outside the top 20 in a tournament.

It works like this.......Westwood overtook Woods to go Top of the rankings on Sunday evening as the rankings are updated monthly,so the past months golf count not just one tournament.
Because Kaymer was playing he could have leapfrogged both with a win,but did't win and stays third.

Isn't it more due to the fact that Woods has lost a lot of ranking points because results from two years (or so) ago no longer count.

If I recall they did say after the Ryder Cup that if Westwood didn't play for two weeks he would have been #1 then. But because he played the following week (and didn't win), it delayed him becoming #1.

Think its abit of both Posh!...but yes Woods has lost points........Michelson must be a bit miffed as he has longed to be number one for years.....big tournament this week where they are all playing,so could all change soon again.
