I sat up there once, school organised trip to watch a game during the 82/83 season (I think) - seem to recall it being a bit of a scary experience.

Wasn't it second hand when we got it, from the Aldershot forces show ground? Or did I make that up?

Yes I think it did come from Aldershot.

I regularly sat up in the 'upper tier' of the Shrivenham Road Stand during my first proper season watching Town. Those steep, rickety stairs on the outside to get to the turnstile were terrifying to a six year old. My first game was Vs Hull City in 1979. It ended 0-0.

I went to nearly every game that season and I never realised there was a terrace below where I sat, until a sweet fell on the floor and I bent down to retrieve it and saw a load of heads through a crack in the wooden floor ... I was amazed.

I managed to get hold of the match programme for that game off of ebay, a young Steve MacLaren was in the tigers squad. Not really that interesting I suppose.

Of course it's interesting Arch. I've never been in the Shrivenham Road End or the DRS as it is now. My granddad always used to take me in the Arkells, but we used to park down Shrivenham Road, it was a pretty scary monstrosity and I'm sure I can remember seats being closed due to weather conditions on the odd occasion

 One of the great things about the Shrivenham Road terrace, was that it was filled in at the corners to the TE and Bank, which meant when you got a big gate there was atmosphere all the way round. That was lost when the DRS was built.

I remember many years ago sitting on wooden benches in front of the Shrivvy Road stand.

Even though I know nothing about baseball, the tour (which was free) was really
interesting. The story about them not winning the world
series in 86 years which seemed to be attributed to babe ruth being sold to the Yankees didn't seem
that far fetched. The guide had loads of good stories and we got to sit on the green monster, great story when a Yankee hit a hr over it, some guy in the street threw it back. Some Yankee ran on and chucked it back over only for the ball to come back again determined not to keep a Yankee hr ball. Their rivalry is fairly fierce from
what I've learnt.

It's extremely fierce. Yankees v Red Sox is one of the great sporting rivalries I love Boston as well.

I watched a programme on ESPN about the new Yankees stadium. Apparently one of the workers was a Red Sox fan and buried something (a Red Sox cap, or shirt, or something) under the pitchers mound to try and put a curse on them. Obviously he couldn't keep his mouth shut and they made him dig it up (they didn't want to risk it, just in case).

I got to see a game at Fenway in the mid 90's, pretty easy getting tickets back then. Glad I went but didn't find it that exciting or special and I was in to baseball and the Red Sox at the time. Strange atmosphere, like being at a cricket match I imagine, very laid back and most people only seemed to have a passing interest in the game.

My Old man tells me that when the upper tier was open people would stamp their feet and shitty bits would fall on those below..
