my neighbours kid has just ridden into my car, scraping his brake lever along the driver and passenger door.it's not a deep scratch down to the metal, but is pretty nasty and i have a white line along my blue car now where the paint has come off.
how do i go about sorting this as cheaply as possible whilst ensuring my car gets returned to its previous state.
can i claim on my insurance? i have never claimed before and protect my no claims.
or do i go somewhere and bill my neighbours.
whatever i chose i aint paying for it.

advise please folks.

Try and get the neighbour to cough up, let him do the leg work on quotes etc as its in his best interest to get best value etc.

If he refuses, stab the cunt

Does the neighbour accept that it was his (kid's) responsibility ?  If so get a quote and present it to him - If he can get a better (proper) quote let him pay for that instead.

As for insurance it depends on how well protected your no claims is - you might not want waste some of this - and it depends on what excess you have as well

Cost will depend if it's a single panel or more than one as well.

the neighbour excepts they will have to pay.my car is less than 3 years old and otherwise in top condition.no way can i leave it like it is.

i just want to get it done as chaeply as possible.

Arriba,

What car have you got?

It depends on the length and depth of the scratch but that's alot of money!!!

Surely you'd be better off getting a touch up pen from registered dealership and asking them to touch it up for you?

Where did you get this quote from?

you can't touch up or tcut it.it would look horrendous.
i knew it wouldn't be cheap as two panels need doing.

Horrible situation.  I genuinely feel for you, your neighbour and the kid.  While I've not seen the scratch, the quote sounds extortionate.  Are you sure the garage is not giving you their 'insurance' quote?  I've had a caved in wheel arch knocked out and resprayed perfectly for as little as £160 in the last few years (after the main dealer quoted £520 for the same job).  If you don't know a decent back street garage in Swindon that will do this for you, PM me and I'll let you have the details of the place I've used in Farnborough!

the scratch is nearly 3 feet long.
with scratches like that they do the whole panel.in this case 2.
i've spoken to a few people and they have said the price is right for the job described.

my neighbours have been really nice about it which has only made me feel worse.i dont want to bill them as we get on and their kids are nice.
i'm gonna get more quotes from some mobile scratch repair companies as 500+quid is a hefty bill for anything.

chipsaway.co.uk have done a good job for some folk i know... not sure if they can cater for a 3ft scratch, no harm in asking.

Try Smart Car UK

www.smartcar-uk.co.uk
Tel:  01793 528452

My dad had some work done by them and they were a fair bit cheaper than the other quotes he got.
